Since the spread of coronavirus in the US, I have been lucky enough to have been able to keep important people in my life as my little inner circle. After 70-plus days of working form home, relaxing, going on socially distant walks, cooking, and more, I felt it was time to get back to posting and today…
3 quarantine activities I really enjoyed.
Apartment Golf
First of all, no, I am not whacking golf balls through an apartment I am renting. That would be kind of reckless. I first saw an ad on Instagram showing a combination of corn hole and beer pong. By chipping a ball towards the other board, you would have a chance at sinking a cup. I thought, well that would be fun but I am not going to buy that set up. I wondered how I could come up with an activity that both my girlfriend and I could have fun while also trying something new while staying in our bubble.
We decided to use one of my golf clubs and chip ping pong balls at two stacked red solo cups. How did we decide who won? We would have to knock down the top cup after one of us placed the starting point and the cups. We treated each new shot as a ‘hole’ and the first one to hit the cups, won that hole. I somehow lost my own game, 6-3.
Bon Appétit videos become real meals
It all started when I found the test kitchen chefs making their favorite coffee. I thought to myself that this bunch of characters are pretty cool but I was also very interested in that specific video because I was starting to try and figure out what coffee machine I wanted to purchase myself – or if I wanted an aero press, a pour over, an espresso machine, Keurig, Nespresso, you get it.
That video then took me down a Bon Appetit worm hole and I continued to watch plenty of videos including 13 pantry pastas, 9 pantry sandwiches, improving boxed Mac & cheese, and pantry desserts.
Virtual Game Night / Trivia
Virtual game nights have kept minds active while staying in touch with friends. Jackbox has been the usual game of choice because everyone has a cell phone and everyone loves a good quip during a round of quiplash. Codenames has also been a fun online game where we found a website to help set up the game from multiple locations.
Just recently, a friend of mine invited me and a few others to join a trivia night he participates in. Each week, a member of the group sets up their own trivia questions that they present to the group. This is a great way to get a variety of questions and opportunities for everyone in your group to get involved.
